Xdvi with Color Specials
It must be a FAQ as to why Xdvi cannot handle color specials. Here are a
few links on the subject:
Randall O'Reilly's code arranges that the text in the first colour
is rendered with aliasing. The other colours use a simple on-off rendering,
and are likely to be less readable.
Patches by Me
These are known to be buggy; Never the less, I would appreciate hearing
of any successes or failures...
Warning: I do not understand the code of xdvi. These patches almost
certainly introduce memory leak type problems, which might cause your
lovingly patched xdvi to crash at an inappropriate moment. You really
are using it at your own risk.
Example 1
Using the tex file demo1.tex and a 16bit X
Windows system, I generated this screen dump with my patched Xdvik.
The claim is that the characters, though fairly small, are still
legible because of the anti-aliasing algorithms within xdvi, and
are in colour.
Can Ghostview do anti-aliasing with X windows?
